On May 21st, 2021, a new tradition was born at UCLA. The First Annual Sig Ep Super Bowl was a competitive, yet fun-filled day raising money for the Hans Bodvardsson Memorial Scholarship. For those of you who may not be familiar with this scholarship, Hans was a Sig Ep brother who passed away in 2020. His scholarship fund will annually support an incoming Bruin studying cognitive science. With Hans’ parents and hometown friends in attendance, those that were blessed enough to get to know Hans came together in a day honoring someone who had touched many lives during his short time at UCLA.
As for the play on the field, many girls had used this as an opportunity to show their competitive spirit with frequent disregard for the non-contact rules that come with flag football. Each team was coached by their own Sig Ep brother that had trained them and dusted off their old high school football playbooks. From trick plays to long passes, the girls were not shy to show off their football prowess.
The format consisted of 2 pool play games that would determine the seeds for the 8-team playoff. Following the pool play, there was a fun punt-catching competition in which each team would nominate a candidate to prove their worth. The playoffs were full of action and high-scoring football, but the senior team consisting of members of Alpha Phi, and Kappa Alpha Theta had come out on top.
